Vogliamo premiare questo film che ringraziamo per aver raccontato molte cose insieme: il film parla di sorellanza, di diritti, di consenso. Lo fa in un momento in cui tanti diritti, tante legittime rivendicazioni sono violentemente messe in discussione e spesso negate.
Attraverso il racconto di uno specifico sia sociale che culturale, il film riesce a toccare dei temi di formazione o meglio di costruzione di un femminile che pretende rispetto e appunto diritti. Diritto ad esistere, ad amare, a dire no, a sopravvivere, a esprimere se stesse.
Sottolineando differenze sociali e possibilità e descrivendo i rapporti familiari nella misura in cui costruiscono l’identità, la regista mostra l’impossibilità delle giovani protagoniste di confessarsi agli adulti e la loro necessità di arrivare a capire il mondo attraverso la sorellanza intesa come possibilità di un femminile. L’amicizia è strumento di formazione oltre che sodalizio, sorellanza appunto, nell’affrontare la vita e nel fare delle scelte, lottando insieme se necessario.

The best fiction award goes to HLM Pussy, a film that which brings together several issues: it talks about sisterhood, rights and consent. And it does so, at a time when many rights and many legitimate claims are violently questioned and often denied.
While describing a specific social and cultural situation, the film manages to touch on specific issues such as the formation or rather the construction of a feminine identity that demands respect and rights. The right to exist, to love, to say no, to survive, to express oneself.
By underlining social differences and possibilities and by describing family relationships that contribute to the construction of identity, the director shows the inability of the young protagonists to have adults as their confidants and their need to understand the world through sisterhood as the possibility of a feminine identity. Friendship is a training tool as well as partnership, sisterhood that helps in facing life, making choices and, if necessary, fighting together.

Attraverso un’osservazione ravvicinata fin quasi al contatto con l’epidermide ma al contempo rispettosa e rigorosa, Smoke Sauna Sisterhood dà accesso a un luogo segreto, mistico, fatto di umori, vapori e liquidi che letteralmente accoglie ogni vita, ogni storia, anche minima, anche tragica.
Nel film un gruppo di donne si ritrova di stagione in stagione in una smoke sauna estone, un luogo dove le tossine del corpo e della società vengono espulse attraverso il forte calore, il vapore, i lavacri, i canti, i gesti rituali di percussione e percuotimento. I corpi nudi, la carne viva, palpitante delle protagoniste, sono reali, ripresi rifuggendo estetismi e voyeurismi. Lì nel buio uterino della sauna, in una immersione che esclude il mondo ordinario, le storie raccontate diventano confessioni che sanguinano come carne viva e che chiedono di essere purificate dal calore, dal freddo, ma ancor di più dall’ascolto. Una pratica di sorellanza che ci invita a viaggiare nelle nostre oscurità, nella condivisione e non nell’isolamento.

Through an observation which is close almost to the point of contact with the skin but that at the same time is respectful and rigorous, Smoke Sauna Sisterhood gives access to a secret, mystical place, made of fluids, vapors and liquids, which literally welcomes every life, every story, even the smallest, even if it is tragic.
In this film, a group of women meet, season after season, in an Estonian smoke sauna, a place where the toxins created by the body and by society are expelled through strong heat, steam, washing, singing, ritual gestures of percussion and beating. The naked bodies, the living and throbbing flesh of the protagonists are real, filmed while avoiding aestheticism and voyeurism. There, in the uterine darkness of the sauna, in an immersion that keeps out the ordinary world, the stories which are told become confessions that bleed like living flesh and that ask to be purified by heat and cold, but even more so by listening. A practice of sisterhood that invites us to travel in our darkness, in sharing and not in isolation.

La nostra menzione speciale vuole cogliere l’invito di questa edizione di Immaginaria e rivolgerlo alla nostra industria audiovisiva. Il nostro Let’s Break It! è rivolto a quelle pareti imbottite forse di gomma e piombo, non certo di cristallo, perché vi si potrebbe vedere attraverso, che separano le storie e le esperienze, attribuendo ad alcune l’ufficialità della Storia e dei musei e ad altre gli scantinati dell’aneddoto sussurrato. Con Lesbiennes. Quelle histoire prodotto da e per il canale francese Histoire TV, la regista ci porta dal suo particolare all’universale, dalla ricerca della propria identità a quella della propria eredità, alla scoperta di quelle antenate libere e visionarie che ciascuna donna si trova a voler incontrare quando vuole uscire dalla scatola della femmina preconfezionata. E che anche chi non è o non si riconosce come donna dovrebbe voler conoscere. È un’opera intima e mainstream allo stesso tempo e questa giuria ne vorrebbe vedere molte altre così efficaci su tutti gli schermi, a partire da quelli di casa.

Our special mention would like to take up the invitation of this edition of Immaginaria and address it to our audiovisual industry. Our “Let’s Break It!” is aimed at those walls padded perhaps with rubber and lead, certainly not with crystal -because one could see through it-, walls which separate stories and experiences, attributing to some of these the official brand of history and museums and relegating others to the basements of whispered anecdotes. With Lesbiennes. Quelle histoire produced by and for the French channel Histoire TV, the director takes us from the particular to the universal, from the search for one’s own identity to that of one’s heritage, to the discovery of those free and visionary ancestors that each woman would like to meet when wanting to get out of the box of a pre-packaged feminine image. And even those who are not or do not recognize themselves as women should know. It is both an intimate and a mainstream work and this jury would like to see many more works equally effective on all screens, starting from those at home.

Menzione speciale a It’s a date, per raccontare l’anima di un incontro, in uno scenario di estrema solitudine e desolazione in una Kiev ferita dalla guerra, a qualunque costo. In questo caso, un gesto vale più di mille parole.

La colonna sonora di The Chambermaid è ispirata e ben eseguita. Si ispira ad una visione ed una orchestrazione classica (orchestra d’archi e pianoforte) molto efficaci e di grande impatto sonoro. Accompagna lo spettatore all’interno della storia di formazione della protagonista ed è la voce del suo mondo emotivo. Musica, emozioni e trama sono profondamente interconnessi in un crescendo che ci spoglia lentamente dal cinismo, portando lo spettatore a partecipare emotivamente alle vicende sullo schermo; per questo motivo la colonna sonora è parte imprescindibile di The Chambermaid. Un’opera toccante e di assoluto valore

The soundtrack of The Chambermaid is moving and well performed. It is inspired by a classical vision and orchestration (string orchestra and piano) that are very effective and have a great sound impact. It accompanies the viewer inside the protagonist’s coming-of-age story and it is the voice of her emotional world. Music, emotions and plot are deeply interconnected in a crescendo that slowly strips us of cynicism, leading the viewer to participate emotionally in the events on the screen. For this reason, the soundtrack is an essential part of The Chambermaid. A touching and absolutely valuable film.
