KISS ME BEFORE IT BLOWS UP
Durante un soggiorno in Israele, Maria, una biologa tedesca, si è innamorata di Shira, proprietaria di un bar a Tel Aviv che si chiama “The Jewish Princess”. Shira ha un rapporto molto stretto con la nonna Berta, un’anziana bisbetica e impertinente, a cui è dedicato il bar. La nonna non è particolarmente entusiasta quando Shira le racconta della sua nuova storia d’amore, non soltanto perché vede la nipote passare allegramente da una fidanzata all’altra, ma soprattutto perché per una sopravvissuta all’Olocausto il fatto che la nipote abbia una relazione con una ragazza tedesca è inaccettabile. Shira però sembra determinata a sistemarsi con Maria. Una proposta di matrimonio (in realtà fraintesa) spinge le due ragazze a organizzare un incontro con i genitori di Shira, che però sono contrari a chi è “shiksa” (non ebrea). Dalla Germania arrivano a Tel Aviv anche i genitori di Maria, depositari di un pesante segreto. Anche nonna Berta ha le sue segrete contraddizioni: un uomo palestinese, un medico gentile e paziente, si è innamorato di lei. E Berta, a causa della sua intransigenza, rischia di mandare all’aria tutto quanto.

During her stay in Israel, German biologist Maria falls in love with bar owner Shira. Shira runs a bar in Tel Aviv called The Jewish Princess, which is dedicated to her stealy and sassy grandmother. Shira has a close relationship with her grandmother Berta, who is not particularly enthusiastic when Shira tells of her new love affair. Grandmother Berta can accept that granddaughter is into women. But for the Holocaust survivor, the fact that Shira, of all people, is to be married to a German is not acceptable at all.
Shira is ready to settle down with Maria. A misunderstood marriage proposal propels the two women into the getting to meet the parents stage. The family is rabidly contrary to everyone who is “shiksa” (not jew). Maria’s parents, who keep an unspoken secret, arrive at Tel Aviv. Even grandmother Bertha has her secrets: a kind Palestinian man is in love with her. And Berta risks destroying both her relationship and that of her niece, due to her grumpy intransigence.
